WWDC 2026: What Indian iOS Developers Should Do Before June 8

Four days from now, Apple will announce the next version of every SDK you ship against. If you are an iOS or macOS developer in India and you are not already set up to watch, download, and react, you will be behind by Tuesday morning. Here is what to do before the keynote goes live at 10:30 PM IST on June 8.

What Apple has confirmed

Apple confirmed WWDC 2026 runs June 8–12, with the keynote at 10:00 AM PT (10:30 PM IST) on Monday, June 8, streamed live on apple.com/in, the Apple TV app, the Apple Developer YouTube channel, and the Apple Developer app. Apple India newsroom, May 2026

Apple also confirmed the Platforms State of the Union (SOTU) the same day at 1:00 PM PT — that is 1:30 AM IST on June 9, the early hours of Tuesday morning. The SOTU is the session that matters most to working developers: it is where Apple goes into the SDK changes, deprecation notices, and new framework introductions with more precision than the keynote.

Over 100 video sessions will follow across June 8–12, covering Apple Intelligence, developer tools, design, graphics, games, and machine learning. Group Labs — live Q&A with Apple engineers — run Tuesday through Friday. Because individual Group Lab times are not yet posted for India-local hours, you need the Apple Developer app set up before Monday night.

Bloomberg reported in May that iOS 27, iPadOS 27, macOS 27, watchOS 27, tvOS 27, and visionOS 27 are all expected at the keynote. Apple's WWDC graphic in April teased what multiple sources identified as a full Siri interface redesign plus a standalone Siri app. Apple has not confirmed either; those remain pre-keynote reports.

Step 1: Get the Apple Developer App on every device you own

The Apple Developer app (App Store ID: 640199958) is the primary interface for WWDC content — live keynote stream, session videos, offline download, and filtering by Unwatched, Bookmarked, and Downloaded.

Do this today:

  • Download the app on your iPhone, iPad, and Mac.
  • Sign in with your Apple ID (free account is enough for session access; paid membership is required for beta downloads and App Store submission).
  • In the Account tab, enable WWDC26 push notifications — Apple uses this channel to announce when individual sessions go live.
  • Add the keynote .ics from developer.apple.com/wwdc26 to your calendar.

The Apple Developer YouTube channel carries the same livestream as a fallback: youtube.com/@AppleDeveloper.

For solo developers and students

If you are an independent developer or a student, note that the free Apple ID gives you session access. The paid Apple Developer Program membership (~$99/year, billed in INR at the current exchange rate) is required only if you need the iOS 27 / Xcode 27 developer beta the same night, or if you have apps to submit. If you are not yet enrolled, do it before June 8 — the enrollment pipeline sometimes takes 24–48 hours to fully activate.

Step 2: Plan your Xcode beta window

Based on the pattern from the last three WWDCs, Apple releases the first iOS developer beta within hours of the keynote ending. In 2026, that means roughly 1:00–2:00 AM IST on June 9. Multiple pre-keynote sources (including ios27beta.com and onejailbreak.com) indicate iOS 27 Developer Beta 1 and a companion Xcode beta will be available immediately after the SOTU, which ends around 2:00 PM PT (2:30 AM IST June 9).

Concrete steps before Monday night:

  1. Back up your primary development Mac using Time Machine or an equivalent. A new Xcode major version can occasionally break project file compatibility or package resolution.
  2. Check disk space. An Xcode beta including the iOS 27 SDK will be approximately 8–12 GB. Clear space now.
  3. Do not install Xcode beta on your main production machine. Use a secondary partition, a separate Mac, or a VM. Your existing Xcode 26 installation is what Apple's App Store Connect still requires for production submissions.
  4. Note the Xcode version change. Sources indicate the Xcode companion release will likely carry the "Xcode 27" branding matching the OS family. The existing iOS 26 SDK mandate (in force since April 28, 2026) continues for production; iOS 27 SDK submissions will only be required after a future deadline Apple announces post-WWDC.

What the beta timeline looks like from India

Event PT time IST
Keynote starts June 8, 10:00 AM June 8, 10:30 PM
Keynote ends (approx.) June 8, 12:00 PM June 9, 12:30 AM
SOTU starts June 8, 1:00 PM June 9, 1:30 AM
SOTU ends (approx.) June 8, 3:00 PM June 9, 3:30 AM
Developer beta drops (est.) June 8, ~3–4 PM June 9, ~3:30–4:30 AM
Session videos begin publishing June 8 onward June 9 onward
Group Labs start June 9 (Tue) June 9, 9:30 PM IST onward

Group Labs run 9 AM–5 PM PT, placing them between 9:30 PM and 5:30 AM IST for Indian developers. On-demand recordings post within hours — the practical choice for most.

Step 3: Audit your existing app before the SDK drops

You do not need to wait for the Xcode beta to prepare. Several areas are worth reviewing in your current codebase today:

Foundation Models and App Intents

The Foundation Models framework arrived with iOS 26 (WWDC 2025) and gives Swift apps direct access to on-device text generation and structured output. Bloomberg and multiple developer sources expect Apple to expand this framework at WWDC 2026 — possibly adding multimodal capabilities and a wider tool-calling surface. If your app does any summarization, search suggestion, or classification work using third-party APIs, you should understand what Foundation Models already offers before you hear what version 2 adds.

Similarly, App Intents (available since iOS 16) is the mechanism through which Siri and Apple Intelligence can invoke app actions without the user opening the app. Reports ahead of WWDC 2026 suggest Apple will deepen the "Siri Extensions" layer, and any app without App Intents adoption will miss this integration. This is low-cost work you can do now.

Swift concurrency and Swift 6

If your project still has @preconcurrency suppressions or has not fully migrated to Swift 6 strict concurrency checking, WWDC 2026 is likely to widen the surface area of Swift concurrency requirements. Audit your codebase with SWIFT_STRICT_CONCURRENCY = complete before the beta. Fixing concurrency warnings on iOS 26 SDK is easier than doing it under deadline on iOS 27 beta, where the compiler may surface new violations.

UIKit / AppKit deprecation watch

Before Monday, run Build > Analyze in Xcode and clear any warnings around:
- UIWebView (deprecated iOS 12; any surviving usage is a submission rejection risk)
- NSURLConnection (replaced by URLSession)
- Legacy Objective-C addObserver(_:selector:name:object:) patterns in mixed-language targets

Cleaning these now avoids context-switching between new API learning and old API firefighting once the beta is live.

Step 4: India App Store changes to track

Apple acts as the merchant of record for App Store transactions in India, which means it collects and remits GST on behalf of developers. The existing framework: Apple charges 18% GST on app purchases, and a 2% equalization levy that India introduced in 2020 — both layered into the consumer-facing price, with developer proceeds calculated on the tax-exclusive base. Apple Developer news, Tax and Price Updates

TCS (Tax Collected at Source, under Section 206(1H) of the Income Tax Act) applies at 0.1% on sales exceeding INR 50 lakh aggregate in a financial year and is charged separately on developer payouts above that threshold.

What to check in App Store Connect before WWDC:

  • Pricing tier review: If Apple announces iOS 27 SDK support for new in-app purchase types or subscription structures at the keynote, pricing tiers sometimes need to be re-saved. Log into App Store Connect and verify your current tier selections.
  • Tax category accuracy: Apple's tax category system in App Store Connect determines how transactions are taxed in each territory. Miscategorized apps (software vs. digital media vs. games) can lead to incorrect GST treatment. Verify this is correct on every active app.
  • Bank account and payment details: Apple pays Indian developers via wire transfer to Indian bank accounts. Confirm your banking information is current; a failed payout during the busy beta season is a distraction you do not need.

No India-specific GST or TCS rate changes have surfaced ahead of WWDC 2026. If Apple announces App Store policy changes at the keynote, watch the Apple Developer news page — India-specific follow-up posts typically appear within 48 hours.

Step 5: Vision Pro, India context, and the ecosystem

Apple Vision Pro has not launched officially in India as of June 2026. The device remains unavailable through any Apple India retail channel, and no launch date has been confirmed. The Hans India visionOS 27 is expected at WWDC 2026, and the same Xcode beta timing applies if you develop for the platform via Simulator or a device purchased abroad. For most Indian developers, visionOS sessions at WWDC 2026 are forward investment rather than urgent production work.

On the program side: Apple's Education Hub at Bengaluru, launched in February 2026 in partnership with the Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE), delivers Swift coding courses via a train-the-trainer model across more than 25 supplier sites in India. Apple India newsroom, February 2026 It is a supply chain upskilling initiative, not a full Developer Academy, but it is the first such Apple footprint in India.

More directly: this year's Swift Student Challenge selected 350 winners from 37 countries. Gayatri Goundadkar, a 20-year-old computer science student from MIT-WPU in Pune, was named a Distinguished Winner — one of 50 globally invited to Apple Park. Her app, Steady Hands, uses Apple Pencil stabilization to filter tremor-induced strokes for artists with motor conditions. Apple India newsroom, May 2026 The developer base in India is not just consuming WWDC content; it is producing work Apple selects as exemplary.

Your checklist for June 8

Complete these before the keynote at 10:30 PM IST on June 8:

  • Download the Apple Developer app on your primary iPhone and Mac; sign in; enable WWDC26 push notifications from the Account tab.
  • Add the WWDC26 keynote and SOTU to your calendar using the .ics links at developer.apple.com/wwdc26.
  • Decide on beta install strategy: identify your secondary machine or partition for Xcode beta. Do not plan to install on your production build machine.
  • Clear at least 20 GB disk space on the machine designated for beta work (Xcode + iOS 27 simulator runtime + documentation).
  • Back up your active Xcode project and confirm it builds cleanly on Xcode 26 with zero warnings on SWIFT_STRICT_CONCURRENCY = complete.
  • Audit App Intents adoption in your apps. If your app has any user-facing actions that could be voice-invokable, start marking them up now before the SOTU defines the new surface.
  • Log into App Store Connect and verify tax categories, pricing tiers, and bank account details are current.
  • Read the Apple Developer news feed at developer.apple.com/news for any India-specific tax or pricing announcement that drops alongside the keynote.
  • If you are not enrolled in the Apple Developer Program and need beta access the same night, enroll today — processing can take up to 48 hours.
  • Bookmark the Apple India newsroom (apple.com/in/newsroom) and check it by June 9 for any India-specific developer program announcements.

The keynote is 96 hours away. The beta is roughly 18 hours after that. Everything you do in the next four days is time you will not have to spend scrambling when the SDK lands at 3 AM on June 9.
